Teresa Kok Is Innocent

14 September 2008 | 4,585 views

These people are obviously ignorant of the facts:

The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) and the Islamic NGOs, Heritage Associations, Malay Cultural Organisations and Related Bodies Cooperation Network (Pewaris) have lodged police reports against Selangor state executive councillor Teresa Kok.

The reports were made by Pewaris advisor Rahimuddin Md Harun and PPIM Complaints Officer Mohd Nor Imran Yusuf at the Sentul district police headquarters at 11am on Sunday.

The reports were lodged over an allegation by former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo that Kok had tried to prohibit the “azan” call to prayer at mosques and surau in Kota Damansara, Sri Serdang and Puchong Jaya. [The Star]

Let’s get this straight, once and for all.

1. The complainants in Puchong were not complaining about the azan, they were complaining about ceramah broadcasts:

… the residents who signed the petition said they had never intended to protest against the use of loudspeakers for the azan.

Instead they have requested the mosque to lower the volume of the loudspeakers for the ceramah (religious talks) which often followed the prayers. [Malaysiakini]

2. The complainants fowarded their complaint in February to Satim Diman, when BN was still in power in Selangor:

The petition, signed by 189 residents, was handed over to Serdang state assemblyperson Mohamad Satim Diman from Umno in February and another copy given to the mosque authorities.

Another copy was also sent to Kinrara DAP state assemblyperson and state exco Teresa Kok’s office after the March 8 polls. [Malaysiakini]

3. Teresa Kok had nothing to do with the complaint or the complainants:

Masjid Kinrara, the mosque which is embroiled in an azan controversy, said DAP parliamentarian Teresa Kok was not involved in the petition to lower the volume of its loudspeakers.

According to Abdul Rahman Nasir, who is head of the mosque committee, Kok had never set foot in Masjid Kinrara to present the residents’ petition. [Malaysiakini]

4. No one complained about the azan in Kota Damansara. The mosque in Kota Damansara did not broadcast the azan for a while because its PA system was down, not because there were complaints:

Masjid Kota Damansara officials have denied that their mosque had ceased sounding the azan from its loudspeakers due to pressure from non-Muslims.

They clarified that it was a damaged amplifier that resulted in the calls to prayers to be made without the aid of a PA system.

Secretary of the three-week-old mosque Ahmad Redzuan Samsudin said a police report was lodged on Wednesday against former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo for claiming pressure from non-Muslims and a state exco-backed petition had forced them to stop making the azan through the loudspeaker.

“Last Saturday (Aug 30), lightning during a thunderstorm had struck and damaged the PA system. Thereafter, we borrowed equipment from the SMK Kota Damansara in Section 10, but problems with the wiring further delayed us from sounding the azans through the loudspeaker.

“There was no pressure from non-Muslims,” said Redzuan when contacted. [Malaysiakini]

Teresa Kok is innocent.

IF ANYONE is guilty here, it is Khir Toyo.

Free Teresa Kok. Go fry Tempe instead.

  3. 3 annoyed 14 September 2008 @ 10:34 pm

will they back date the police reports so as to use them to justify the arrests?

or will they use the reports retrospectively to justify the arrests?

did The Honorable Home Minister make the police looks silly when he said it was entirely the police who decide to make the arrests?

if such was the decisions of the police….i am deeply concern. the police force may have to ask for massive budgets to retrain its members.

In Malaysia, if you are not in UMNO, you are considered a terrorist! So, to avoid the police dragnet… better join UMNO or cut your tounge. Or better still go any religious landmarks, i mean ANY and swear to GOD that you did not do it. But please advertise your swearing-in on TV3 for at least 3 days! Then… you can go scot free. Thank you for the clarification. The facts of the case are crystal clear, except for those who refuse to see.

While the oil is hot, how about also frying the mainstream media that gave publicity to the allegations, but not to the facts that emerged later?

    “She’s innocent?

Not agreeing with a road sign is good enough reason to incarcerate someone under the ISA??????????????? God help us!

so what is next? and what the big deal about a road sign…has it caused racial problem.

the issue they say was about the azan and clearly she is not involved and the petition was actually a suggestion by BN according to the Puchong resident. and it was never an issue over Azan. can you haul in Satim as well?

be rational lah tempegoreng, otherwise, people will think you will have the same brain as UMNO.

focus on this issue. Even the mosqe has made the statement that she is not involve in this, why you have to act like Toyo to make a false claim?

    Think rational and logically.

The human race is the cause of problems.

If we believe in the story of creation, all of us come from one man, Adam. Like it or not, we are related to each other.

I am related to all the extremists, leftists, rightists, sexists out there!

There is only one place for race supremacy and exclusivity – hell.

  13. 13 Say Kooi Heng 14 September 2008 @ 11:37 pm

This is a provocation arrest. Do not be fool. They are hoping that we react over this and they can raise the racial tension even more.

It’s a brilliant tactic, because if the Chinese keeps demanding her release, they will have the excuse to say that the Chinese did not show any respect to the practice of Muslims, and provoke those UMNO-linked Islamic NGO to do drastic thing that can trigger unrest.

Don’t fall for the trap. PAS, this is where your help is needed to voice up that Teresa is innocent. DAP, please don’t act alone, ask PKR and PAS to help in this one to avoid UMNO using this an excuse to blow things up.

Be smart. Everything has a motive and everyone lies like Khir Toyo.

  15. 15 ceritalah 14 September 2008 @ 11:51 pm

If she did anythg wrong then why the mosque commitee come out and give a statement that there is no such protest and defend her? Why even b4 a police report has been made she already been arrest under ISA when Ahmad Ismail still free even after dzen of report against him? I dont understand all this… The law has become 2 tier where one if for UMNO and another is for public(non UMNO)….wth….

  16. 16 Anak Malaysia 14 September 2008 @ 11:59 pm

Pity your ignorance tempegoreng. Draconian ISA = road sign? You are not using your brain to realise that ISA must never be used especially on this issue. Malaysians must be wary of people like you.

  17. 17 Barney 15 September 2008 @ 12:02 am

It’s clear proves the BN aduns are liars who wants to cover their shit by accusing others. This toyol is a cunning devil who wants to divert attention so that all his wrong doings and corrupt practice would be forgotten by the people who voted him to office the last time.

  18. 18 shaydflin 15 September 2008 @ 12:34 am

Who is commenting, are you the spy who did the job investigating the case?. Now let me tell you something, you don’t have to be seen there but you may have the power to direct people to voice whatever they think was right, but whether that was right to do in this country where Islam is the nation’s religion?. From my view when you do many things against the sensitivity of the Malay, if you don’t do anything against this case stopping the azan, people still think you have the hand behind the scene.

All those things about pig farming, and downing of jawi, and the five roasted pigs, you know, even kids know what they meant.

So, don’t say someone is innocent unless it is proven as not guilty.

  19. 19 Eugene 15 September 2008 @ 12:38 am

Well, whether you agree or disagree with Teresa’s road sign pictures, it is still no excuse to arrest her under the ISA.

Obviously, Teresa has to learn more about Malay culture and especially Jawi script.

Her “involvement” in the issue of the azan which is obviously a big lie and slander; Furthermore, she has been exonerated by the mosque committee of both mosques. Unfortunately, this ‘fitnah’ has been manipulated in the month of Ramadan by despicable politicians and mainstream media of shot credibility.

Learn to separate the two, tempegoreng?

  20. 20 Chanting Yes 15 September 2008 @ 12:40 am

    Dear Aisehman,

The battle, I fear, is over the Malay heartland of the blogs. The attempt to reason must at least be made regarding the wild allegations. It is as if logic has been suspended everytime I read remarks like the one from tempegoreng.

Didn’t the minister himself claimed that YB Teresa was arrested over the azan issue? Wasn’t that confirmed by the mainstream press? Sure, the road signs (can anyone tell me what this supposed crime is?)… so the woman is actually guilty for something else, but that is not why she was arrested under ISA, isn’t it?

Why are they so many stupid people on this earth?

I cannot reconcile the fact that the minister also said that Ahmad Ismail has been punished. Hello? Since when a suspension by UMNO is federal punishment for sedition? Since Ms. Tan was arrested for reporting the truth (which Ahmad Ismail didn’t deny, accepted and vehemently refused to retract), I hope the Utusan Malaysia reporter can explain himself.

Perhaps he too can be arrested under ISA then released “for his own safety”.

Everyone knows that RPK’s arrest have got nothing to do with insulting Islam but more with national politics. What I do find insulting to Islam is that so many failed to use their mental faculties and just get emotional for nothing.

The minister’ time with the press, as I expected, was a total embarassment.

Let not this outrage fall along the usual divide of race and religion. Every Malaysian should be outraged by such lousy lies.

  21. 21 Chanting Yes 15 September 2008 @ 12:47 am

Perhaps this move by Syed Hamid is intentional. Well, maybe it wasnt the minister’s intention, but the imaginable result is a huge backlash on the government.

Interestingly, I have yet to read a direct take of the matter by the PM or the DPM. Something fishy is afoot, and I agree with some who said that this is related to what is going on in UMNO atm. What I have yet been able to decipher, is what good will it do to certain factions is publc outrage and anger diverted to the present government (in particularly Badawi), will achieve.

Already, Anwar is trying to cool the temperature by stressing national security. Why is this a issue of unity? Is there something here the rest of us should know? Are the masses being incited along dangerous lines? They approved the Kelana Jaya gathering to be held soon. Is this a ruse so that undesirable elements can be planted to create chaos?

Read the mainstream press and read the storyline which can be used for blame games later.

    THINK MY DEAR MALAYSIANS… THINK!!!

  22. 22 Eric 15 September 2008 @ 12:59 am

Police reports should be made against the two government organisation for malacious defamation and for malaciously lodging police reports against Teresa on bad faith without knowing the facts of the situation.

Here’s one Divine Intervention – God Almighty is Great…

Malaysiakini – Beh Lih Yi | Sep 14, 08 2:42pm – Quote – “Law minister threatens to quit over ISA…

De facto Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim today threatened to resign if the government continues to use the Internal Security Act, which allows detention without trial, against any individuals. ” Unquote.

“Devine Intervention” works wonders & with the “Anarchy” developing within their ranks of “Wannabe Young UMNO Heroes” vs the “Righteous Leaders”, they are having their own “Enemies” from within !

PM & DPM have lost the “Plot” altogether & this “UMNO Anarchy” will be the “Mother of the BN Self-Desruct” mechanism in full action.

Just give them more rope to “Hang” themselves at every turn towards their “Demise” soon.

We have to be virgilant, stay UNITED, stay calm, have Faith in God Almighty for His Blessings, Protection & Guidance so that we will not fall into the BN “Chaos Trap”.

It’s about the Azan lah wei apasal tiba-tiba masuk roadsign ni? Itu lain cerita lah. Teresa’s being detained unlawfully over the purported ‘Azan banning’, bukan roadsign. Nak dakwa dia pasal roadsign pergi buat Polis report pasal tu and ensure she gets charged over that. Don’t muddle and mix two unrelated things lah!

I am ashamed that a Muslim party like UMNO can be so deceitful, fitnah whilst knowing the real truth. In Islam fitnah is a sin equivalent to killing. UMNO’s current fitnah antics is equivalent to those Muslim fanatics who halalkan suicide bombing in the name of jihad and religion. The only difference here is that there is no blood shed. However their actions have “aniaya” (dont know the english equivalent to this word) the wrongly accused plus also caused pain, suffering to the accused family members.

I pray that you will all repent – if this is jihad to you (Dato’Sharizat said something in this tune) – it certainly isnt the jihad you will fight in my name.

“So, don’t say someone is innocent unless it is proven as not guilty.”

    shaydflin said the above.

wow!!! who justice system is this bro? Malaysia? Islam? It is guilty until proven otherwise. you must be following Pak Lah justice la like in Anwar case, guilty cos Anwar denied it and didn’t swear on the quran. But Najib denied his involvement, and Najib is not guilty. Double standards in Malaysia, one for UMNOPutras and one for the rest of Malaysians. So can we say Ahmad is guilty until proven not guilty. Shall we say Pak Lah is guilty for he corruption charged file by an UMNO member until he is proven not guilty?

The laws in Malaysia and Islam are clear. Provide evidence and witnesses if you charge someone as long as you can’t, they are not guilty.so get your logic correct, no where is one not guilty until proven guilty. It is the other way around la. Just shows what kind of thinking power you have and do anything including stupid statements to justify things like Syed Albar.

Even IF Teresa Kok did support a petition requesting that the Azan be toned down, what is wrong with this ? She would have done it in a civil manner by putting her signature on a piece of paper. She wasn’t violently(or peacefully)demonstrating outside the mosque or anywhere else. Why doesn’t the mosque or the authorities respond to her also in the same way by writing to her and telling her that the Azan cannot be toned down and that they regret the inconvenience caused to the residents. As somenone else commented on this blog, bring on PAS and Islam if the result is a clean and transparent government. I’ve had enough of UMNO and Barisan. Get the hell out of our lives.
